Our Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of salt should I use?

Any salt is better then none but non-iodized fine salt works best. The large rock or

pickling salt will not be absorbed and allowed to do as good a job.

If I am going to freeze my hides for shipment how should I prepare them?

As with salted hides, remove as much fat and meat tissues as possible keeping

blood to a minimum. Always fold the hides like a blanket, never roll a hide up.

Remember NEVER salt and try to freeze your hides.

Does Skyline tan hides wet or dry?

We can tan your hides either wet or dry. Make sure when you send your shipment

that you indicate which hides are to be wet and which are to be dry tanned.

If I find that a hide that is wet tanned is a bit dry, what should I do?

Simply re-hydrate the hide by applying water with a sponge or rag. Place the hide

into a plastic bag and refrigerate it overnight. The hide will be ready for mounting

the following day. Do not leave the hide in the refrigerator for a prolonged period of

time, as it will be susceptible to mould.

Will Skyline prepare my hide if I choose not to?

We will do all the preparation for you if you wish, (split lips, eyes, nose, ears, skin

paws, beam and salt) for an additional cost.

What is the best way to ship my hides?

Hides that are salted and dried and adequately boxed can be shipped by any of the

normal methods. Mail, bus, courier or dropped off in person. Frozen hides are best,

if possible, delivered in person. If that is not possible then they should be packed in

as adequate a container as possible, (i.e.: coolers, Styrofoam boxes), and shipped

by the quickest means to ensure that the hides arrive to us frozen.

Is there anything else I need to send with my hides?

Any pertinent paperwork for the hides is required. These may include import\

export papers, special permits or licenses as well as some type of bill of lading

showing quantities and types of hides. If there are any specific shipping instructions

           please include these as well.

If I have any other questions can I call Skyline?

We are always here to help. If you have any questions please feel free to contact

            us by phone or email.
